Government Prepping Electronic Payment Platform For Government Goods And Services

The Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, recently stated that the government will soon launch an electronic platform that will allow for online payments for government goods and services. She stated the payment platform will help reduce corruption, enhance transparency and improve revenue generation.
“We are setting up an electronic payment platform for all government goods and services which will be operational within the next few weeks, and that will ensure that when a citizen pays for goods from any government agency it will go directly to the agency. We will receive notification that the payments have been made and received and notification about when the service will be delivered” she said.
“For those who have applied for passports that is already rolling out, it’s going to be replicated across governments; and that for us will also reduce corruption and enhance transparency.”

Could This Launch Be The E-Payment Platform?

Although it sounds like this is a “novel” project, the electronic payment launch could actually be the E-Payment Platform which was started in the early 2010s in partnership with the World Bank.

The imminent launch could signal that the project is finally ready to get off the group and be made available for public use. The platform allows for payment of government services including DVLA Vehicle Ownerships and extensions of Visitor Permits.
