Reddit misinformation coronavirus:
Other major sites have already started making changes to ensure links to official health organizations are visible at the top of search results for every coronavirus-related query, however, Reddit is yet to join in. The platform’s lack of action is worrying as it is aiding the spread of false information in the Reddit community.
Popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and TikTok presently have links to the CDC and WHO at the top of search results while e-commerce platforms like Amazon have also activated identical pop-ups and guidance on its website.
With no link to reliable coronavirus information, a Reddit search for the disease currently grants users access to shady sources, unverified social media posts and untrue claims. Infact, a particular post shared in r/popularopinion with almost 40,000 upvotes clearly takes a racist stance on the disease.
