The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the price on the teachers' laptop in a press statement on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
The laptops which is to be distributed to all teachers across the country under the One Teacher, One Laptop initiative comes with numerous controvecies between the Union leaders and their members.
According to a statement singed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of Public Relations Unit at the GES indicates that the laptop with brand name "Teachers Mate One (TM1) is an initiative by the three (3) major teacher unions (GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT) in Ghana in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) / Ghana Education Service (GES) to procure for all teachers to improve teaching and learning in the country.
Through this initiative, government has decided to support the teachers by absorbing 70% and total amount and teachers paying only 30% of the remaining.
Therefore, the actual amount according to the statement released states that government will absorb GHS 1,283.30 while the teacher pays GHS 549.44.
The teachers' portion will be one-off deduction from the Continuous Professional Development Allowance which according to reports will be paid in November.
Before the distribution all District ICT Coordinators are currently trained on how to use the Educational Software (EDUKAT) pre-installed on the laptop for teachers use.
