NTC BEGINS REGISTRATION AND LICENSING TO IN-SERVICE TEACHERS WHO RECEIVED THEIR PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE AFTER SEPTEMBER 2018

REGISTRATION AND LICENSING OF IN-SERVICE TEACHERS WHO OBTAINED THEIR PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATES AFTER 30th SEPTEMBER, 2018

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has been mandated to register and license teachers in Ghana and the process of issuing license to all professional teachers is on-going. 

Registration of such teachers have been covered in fifteen (15) regions, remaining on (Eastern) to be covered by the end of August, 2022.

This has already been undertaken, minus the in-service teachers who who had their professional certificate after 30th September, 2018. Even though such teachers were in-service teachers, they were supposed to write the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) before the qualified to be licensed.

Following a petition by some teachers in this category, the NTC Board has granted exemptions to this category of teachers on writing the GTLE.

The IN-SERVICE teachers referred to here, are persons who were teachers before September 2018 but did not have any recognised teacher education certificate (professional).

Such teachers must fulfill the following conditions in order to qualify to receive their license 

  • All such teachers must have completed a post graduate programme in Education from a recognised Teacher Education Institution.
  • Must upload their certificates, appointment letters, passport size photographs and complete their registration on the teacher’s portal.
  • Must pay verification of certificates and activation of teacher’s account fee of One Hundred Ghana Cedis (Ghc 100.00) GES staff have already been deducted.
  • Must pay One Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis (Ghc150.00) for the issuance of  license at designated centers. These payments must be done online on the teacher Portal Ghana (tpg.ntc.gov.gh)

All teachers who fall under this category must visit the portal and register on or before 30th September,2022.

It is further announced that all in-service teachers in this category who have not yet obtained their professional certificate have up to December 2024 to obtain their professional certificates and to qualify for this exemption. After 2024. All such teachers will be required to pass the GTLE.
