The Leadership of Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) have given Government a five (5) days ultimatum to act on their grievances else they will embark on an industrial action.
In a press release signed by Mr. Prince Obeng-Himah (National President, CETAG) and Mr. Fredrick Forkuo Yeboah (National President, CENTSAG) stated that are dissapointed at the way the government has handled issues affecting the welfare of their members in the 46 Colleges of Education in the country over the years.
The Leadership of the two Associations have therefore given government five working day to address their concerns such as;
- Non-finalization of CETAG's Conditions of Service (CoS) negotiations which started on 14th of August, 2021 and has direct implications for CENTSAG's own CoS.
- Unilateral determination of April 2023 by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) as effective date for placing First Degree holders of CENTSAG on 17H on the SSSS.
- Undue delay by the Ministry of Education in responding to our request for payment of compensation for all-year round work to both teaching and non-teaching staff.
- Deliberate variation of Fuel, Vehicle Maintenance and Off-Campus allowances of CETAG and CENTSAG members as compared to our counterparts in other analogous institutions in the face of rising cost of fuel prices in the country.
- Unfair retrospective deductions of office holding allowances paid to some members of CENTSAG and CETSAG.
The Associations have given government up to Friday, 11th November, 2022 to declare an indefinite strike actions which they suspended in January 24 and April 14, 2022 respectfully if their demands are not met.
Meanwhile three (3) Teacher Unions, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) in the Pre-Tertiary Education have declared in indefinite strike action on 4th November, 2022 over the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as Director General of the Ghana Education Service and other Conditions of Service which are being denied by the government.
