The negotiations between the Government and Labour Unions fails again over the base pay increment of public sector workers for the four (4th) time
Labour Unions was initially demanding 60% increase in the Base Pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) to compensate for the current economic hardships.
The organized labor however rejected the offer immediately as they insist on a figure because of the inflation. The labour has however increased their demand to 65%. Even though government on Wednesday tabled an 18% increment after the Unions earlier rejected a 15% increment.
In an interview on City News, Dr. Isaac Bampoe Addo Executive Secretary for the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), he noted that they have changed their initial demand from 60% to 65%.
He indicated though that they are going to consult on the government’s offer.
“As you are aware, we have read the budget and there is an indication that there will be an increase in VAT of 2.5 … so this is fresh information that they have brought to that table. Because the budget has indicated certain issues in relation to VAT and the tax bracket to increase our burden,” the representative of CLOSAG said.
