It is no secret that the sport Betting has become an increased phenomenon which appears to be a profitable business opportunity in Ghana. However, what is oblivious to many is how much destruction this business is exerting on the education of the Ghanaian Child and the youth in general.
It is in view of this that the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has directed the leadership of the Gaming Commission to shutdown gaming centres established around schools across the country.
The Minister, in his statement justified that, establishing companies near educational institutions affects the academic works of school children and therefore, it has become very crucial for the Gaming Commission should speed up their steps in shutting down the betting companies situated close to schools.
Further, he added saying the shutting down or relocating of the betting from educational institutions will reduce the rate at which children patronize the centres and eventually stop gaming as time flies by.
Backing his statements, he reminded them to act accordingly to the provisions stated in the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721) which talks about how they (Betting Companies) can operate in the country.
In recent times, the rate at which school children have been flooding gaming centres is alarming and needs a well calculated steps to curb such a disturbing act among school children.
